For some reason, and I hope I’m not alone on this, the ocean is one of the most terrifying things to me.
Maybe it’s because we’ve explored less than 5 percent of the ocean thus far, meaning most of our planet’s greatest mysteries likely lie in the depths of the ocean. Or maybe it’s because I know there are creatures larger than a school bus swimming in the same water as me.
Either way, our oceans never cease to amaze as more and more mysteries find their way to the surface.
Which is exactly what happened to a puzzled and confused Iranian Navy who happened upon a massive, ominous looking creature floating in the Persian Gulf. Even their most veteran of crewmen could not figure out for the life of them just what they were seeing.
So, they did what any normal group of humans would do: get as close as you can to take pictures. Pictures that they would later post online to see what others had to say about their find.
Some internet speculators said that it was likely a whale’s carcass, noting the blackened skin and exposed vertebrae as “good giveaways.” But to this day, no one is exactly certain what type of animal this carcass belongs to.
Whatever it is, one thing is for for sure: I’m glad I’m not in the water with that thing.
