If you’re a proponent of the conservation of endangered animals, the owner of Jimmy John’s Restaurant might not be your favorite person right now. After numerous photos surfaced showing the restaurant’s owner engaging in the killing of trophy animals in Africa, many people are saying they’ll never eat at Jimmy John’s again.
Jimmy John Liataud has made several trips to Africa in order to hunt big game. The types of animals he’s killed include elephants, zebras, leopards and rhinos. In fact, the photo below shows Jimmy posing with a black rhino that Real Farmacy claims is ‘gravely endangered.’ Liataud is said to have paid $350,000 for a license to kill the black rhino.
Poaching is a major problem all over the world, with 100,000 elephants killed in the three years between 2011 and 2014. National Geographic reports that because of how popular they’ve become to hunt, they’re nearing extinction. Experts in the field project that elephants very well may be extinct by the year 2020.
