If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you’re an empath, there are many different ways to tell. Empaths are those who often absorb the energies, emotions and feelings of those around them. Whether they like it or not, empaths are subjected to these forces almost constantly.
Empaths are the healers in the world. The ones who people often seek out in times of duress and turmoil, because they somehow know that the empath will listen and understand and feel. People are naturally drawn to them because they are so good at bringing others peace.
Here are seven signs that you or someone you know might be an empath:
They absolutely detest liars
Empaths can spot liars a mile away, and while everyone hates being lied to, empaths are particularly wounded by it. It makes their skin crawl. It makes them freeze up because they don’t know how to interact with someone who is inauthentic and deceitful.
They try to avoid crowds of people
While empaths can be either introverted or extroverted, the fact that they absorb the energies of everyone around them makes being group settings overwhelming and exhausting at times. They typically like small gatherings or the peacefulness of solitude.
They avoid negativity at all costs
Empaths are incapable of not feeling everything. It takes a lot of practice to learn how to shield themselves from unwanted energies. Which is why they purposely avoid the horrific stories and tales they hear on the news and across social media. The pain that exists in the world today is all too real for them.
They’re the best listeners you’ve ever come across
Empaths don’t just like to hear people talk. They are genuinely interested in what you have to say. Not only do they listen intently and actively, they’re right alongside you in your stories, feeling and experiencing as much of them as possible. They don’t judge or criticize, they only offer help when it is needed.
You never find them trying to be anyone other than who they truly are
Empaths have usually had tremendous growing pains to become the people that stand before you today. They know who they are and are excited to grow into the person they know they will become. It is never the empath who has a problem with who they are--it is the people who struggle to know who they themselves truly are that have problems with empaths.
They can seem distracted at times
Empaths have a genuine interest in the myriad of things life has to offer, from the small to the grand. It’s common to find them daydreaming or distracted, as they’re usually busy observing the little things in life that most people seem to overlook.
They have a strange connection with animals
An empath would never tell you that they “own” a pet. Instead, they see their animal companions as just that, companions. Wild and feral animals are seen as perfect souls without a single ounce of hatred in their being. They enjoy speaking to them and occasionally, the animals will speak back.
