It isn’t every day that you meet someone who doesn’t use deodorant and smells like roses. Most of us would be somewhat intrigued, if not appalled, by someone whose natural body odors didn’t absolutely reek after skipping deodorant for a day or two.
Elyse Brautigam is a 22-year-old YouTube vlogger who claims that she hasn’t used deodorant in over a year after learning that it might be causing breast cancer. Apparently, she hasn’t used a single spray or roll-on deodorant since October of 2015, citing her raw food vegan diet as one of the main reasons her body doesn’t smell like so many others.
“My hormones have balanced even more and my body odour has changed quite a bit,” says Elyse to fans on her YouTube channel.
She even mentions that she’s an avid gym-goer, and not the type who just wanders around doing nothing:
“I’m not one of those people that goes in and works out and doesn't break a sweat. I aim to be super sweaty by the end of the workout. I have been going to the gym actually for the past two full years. And when I go to the gym I sweat like a pig.”
Elyse tells us that the type of foods she eats are part of strict diet, and that each of them do not have naturally strong or foul smelling properties.
“Your body actually starts to smell differently based on the food you are putting into your body,” she says as she lifts her arm to reveal her unshaven armpit.
Elyse, being a resident of Hawaii, is no stranger to a hot climate, either. And as those of you who live in incredibly humid regions know, sweating is pretty much an everyday thing. But, Elyse says that her body no longer produces the naturally smelly odor--instead, it gives off a natural “pheromone” smell.
I've never joined a fitness challenge before because I've been pretty confident in my ability to get fit following my own weightlifting plans. But it's been 2 full years since I started lifting and I'm feeling like I've really hit a plateau. I have so much going on with Raw Alignment which makes diving into a challenge with a full workout plan already created feel like the best option right now! I'm so stoked to see how I can transform my body over the next 8 weeks with @katyhearnfit 's Fall Challenge. 🤗🙈🎉 #khfallchallenge16
She does say that she will occasionally give her underarms a cleaning if the smell starts to become too pungent during the day.
What do you think? Have you ever done away with deodorant for a long period of time?
