Nature has always inspired mankind to create. There’s something about being outside in our natural habitat that makes us want to mimic it, to reproduce it to the best of our ability. Something about capturing the essence of what makes our Earth so special is very appealing to us.
The stunning pieces of work you see below were hand-crafted by Kenya-born, New Zealand-based artist Gordon Pembridge. His love for Earth and the creatures that inhabit it is illustrated beautifully through his ability to recreate the scenes of nature that have captured his thoughts.
From the elephants, zebras and giraffes to the intricately designed trees and shrubbery, it’s easy to fall in love with any one of his magical creations.
Pembridge mainly uses wood that he has found from fallen trees. He shapes this wood with a lathe and then uses a high-speed engraver to go to work creating. Many of them are homages to his roots--Kenya and New Zealand. Finally, he uses airbrushing to add color and depth to each one.
How amazing are these wooden vessels?
