Childbirth is one of the most miraculous phenomena a mother can experience, but it’s also one that can be incredibly dangerous for both the mother and the child should something go wrong.
Denijela was pregnant with her daughter, Meriza, in 2009 and after giving birth to her, fell deep into a coma that would see her unconscious for seven long years. Doctors told her husband, George, that the likelihood of her recovering was not very good. They recommended he donate her organs to help others who might need them, but he said that their daughter knew that Denijela would wake up.
As she grew up, Meriza began to understand what had happened to her mother, so she decided to spend as much time with her as she could. Meriza and George would go to the hospital every morning before school to be with her. After school, Meriza would get some lunch and go to the hospital to be with her mom and do her homework.
Meriza would comb her mother’s hair while she slept and even put her makeup on every now and then. Eventually, her father asked her why she was so intent on doing these things for her mother everyday. Meriza told him that once she woke up, she would be doing the same things for her.
Then, somehow, some way, Denijela woke up after seven years of lying in the hospital unconscious.
Meriza met her mother for the very first time since she was delivered from her tummy. Instead of holding a newborn infant, Denijela met a young girl with a full head of hair and a face that was a beautiful mix of herself and her husband.
“My name is Meriza. I am your daughter,” said Meriza.
Denijela was unable to walk after waking from her coma, but Meriza told her not to worry because George had taught her how to walk and that she would learn how to do it too.
Thankfully, the family is reunited and healthy, and Denijela gets to become the mother she was meant to be.
Denijela and Meriza’s tale is a reminder that love’s power should never be underestimated.
