Intelligent people have it even worse. Their “intelligent” nature often creates more problems than it solves. They’re usually not as familiar with navigating life using their hearts.
As pretty much everyone figures out at one point or another, relationships will be some of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with in your life. People are too complex, unique and robust for it to be any other way. Unfortunately, this also means that we’re prone to acting irrational and doing irrational things.
Intelligent people have it even worse. Their “intelligent” nature often creates more problems than it solves. Here are five reasons that intelligent people struggle a little bit when it comes to intimate relationships:
Intelligent people are always drawing from past experiences and past outcomes when trying to solve their current problems. Unfortunately, this means that they often make conclusions too quickly, rather than letting the situation play out on its own. So they’re prone to jumping ship at the first sign of trouble, rather than waiting to see what happens.
Being so aware of all of the things that could potentially go wrong in a relationship keeps intelligent people from bringing down their walls and letting people in. They’ve opened up in the past and been burned, so they’re not about to let the same thing happen all over again. This makes them come off as cold and unavailable, which isn’t what they want at all.
They’re almost so straight-to-the-point that it becomes a fault. They don’t hesitate to say what they’re thinking, which often causes others to see them as rude and crass. But, they’re not about to stop being direct for the sake of others, which can be a tough trait to have during sensitive situations.
Intelligent individuals are used to using the power of their brain to overcome all of life’s problems. However, they’re usually not as familiar with navigating life using their hearts. The intense emotions and desires of the heart are not something they fully understand, so they usually choose to ignore it entirely.
Intelligent people have lived a life achieving validation through successes in academia. They know which areas of life they excel in, so they often prefer to spend much of their time doing things they’re good at, rather than wasting time and energy on a relationship they can’t even begin to understand.
