Here Are 5 Ways In Which You Can Spot An Empath Around You

Empaths are those people in our world that have an energy about them that is welcoming, peaceful and understanding. These are the people we often find ourselves talking to during times of hardship or uncertainty.

“In empathy, you don’t speak at all. You speak with the eyes. You speak with the body. If you say any words at all, it’s because you are not sure you are with the person. So you may say some words. But the words are not empathy. Empathy is when the other person feels the connection to with what’s alive in you.” - Marshall Rosenberg

Empaths are those people in our world that have an energy about them that is welcoming, peaceful and understanding. These are the people we often find ourselves talking to during times of hardship or uncertainty.

Here are six signs that you are an empath or someone you know is an empath:

They despise when people tell lies and hate it, even more, when they’re the ones being lied to

Of course, no one likes being lied to. Empaths, however, cannot stand it. It makes their skin crawl, it shakes their inner peace. And the worst part? Empaths can tell when a person is lying the second they begin to speak. If you can immediately tell when someone is lying to you and it makes you want to scream at them, there’s a good chance you’re an empath.

They are the best listeners you’ve ever come across

Listening is not a skill that everyone has, unfortunately. Empaths, on the other hand, are incredibly good listeners. You can speak for hours on end about your life and your story and they’ll be there with you every step of the way. Why? Because sound waves aren’t just passing through one ear and flying out the other. When empaths listen, they actually experience the stories and tales being told, along with their accompanying emotions and moods.

They don’t judge, they don’t interrupt; they just want to maybe offer some helpful advice or be there with you in your moment.

Being in crowded places overwhelms and exhausts them

Because empaths are so prone to absorbing the energies of the people around them, large crowds and gatherings can leave them feeling exhausted and in need of some quiet time to recharge. They can usually make it through events like concerts or big events but will want to leave as soon as possible. This applies to both the extroverted and introverted empath.

Negative imagery or stories in the media affect them greatly

It’s something many empaths struggle to avoid: being directly affected by everything they see and hear in the media. For empaths, it’s incredibly hard to not immediately experience and feel the distraught emotions that accompany upsetting news and media imagery (which is why they tend to avoid the news at all costs). School shootings, car crashes, etc. These are all things empaths would just rather avoid hearing about.

Empaths only know how to be themselves

If you’ve ever wanted to meet a truly genuine person, find an empath. It is practically impossible for an empath to put on a mask or try to be something they’re not. They know who they are and aren’t afraid to be themselves, regardless of who’s in their company. Unfortunately, people will occasionally have a problem with an empath’s sensitive, honest, genuine nature.
