“That's the difference between irony and sarcasm. Irony can be spontaneous, while sarcasm requires volition. You have to create sarcasm.” ― Christopher Moore.

Some research shows that sarcasm between friends does not lead to unfriendly vibes, but reinforces sincerity in the relationship. It is because both parties interact honestly and are open to being mocked alluding to the ironies that have taken place in their lives. But, why is it that sarcastic people are more wanted and are considered witty and intelligent in this world?

Before you dig in, you must know that sarcasm does not always imply rudeness or hurtful comments. The only thing that matters is the intention. It also helps in lightening the mood in a tense room, making people laugh, and also help to reveal certain emotions, which others were afraid to say out loud. Only a sarcastic person has the potential to boast about their frustrations in life in a healthy way that often evokes humor. Therefore, if you are sarcastic, you are intelligent and a part of you is highly creative. Believe it when it comes from the study done by Harvard and Columbia University researchers.

To be sarcastic, you need more thoughts. You require more effort than those who respond to a comment in a non-sarcastic, simple manner. For example: When someone asks you "How are you?", in response, normal people would say, " I am good", but sarcastic people's mind will perform acrobatics to arrive at a sarcastic response, that will take place within the same amount of time, and the response will be something like, "Overworked and underpaid".

It requires mind processing and better perspectives to be sarcastic than anyone else. It is because of this, people who are not sarcastic take a longer time to understand it as they think a bit deeper into the subject in order to understand the true intent of that amazing sarcasm. If you are good with sarcasm, you are helping your mind to expand, making a link between creativity and intelligence. According to the researchers at Harvard and Columbia, people who gave and received sarcastic comments were able to perform 3 times better in a creativity test.

The result showed that 75% of those who were sarcastic figured out the tricky and complicated task in the test, as compared to 25% of those exposed to sincere content. Therefore, it does help in expanding the thoughts and helps in thinking about particular situations from the possibility of 'outside the box'. It helps in promoting conceptualization and because of that, there are practical benefits of it for those who are sarcasm's king and queen.

What makes sarcastic people truly intelligent and the most desired is the fact that it opens the doors for abstract thinking, which has long been linked to higher intelligence. It is the only reason what makes humans different from animals. If you are sarcastic in your workplace, it means that you are open to abstract thinking, which is highly valued for the productivity of the company. However, there is only one problem, which is, sarcasm can only be valued and enjoyed amongst people and place who understand it. Therefore, trying to win over your delegates with your sarcasm, better check they have the mind to comprehend it or not.
