India, known as the vast land of Kama Sutra had ancient Indian sages who conceived it on the basis of the Vedas. The first formulation of the Kama Shashtra also known for talking about the rules of love is attributed to Nandi, who was Lord Shiva's companion. It is preserved in the form of 'Kama Sutra' written down by the sage Vatsyayana between the first and sixth century A.D. It is only Kama Sutra which is believed to have survived as the original Kama Shashtra. According to Vatsyayana, he has only stated the quotes and had condensed the previous work.

The Kama Shastra was one of the ancient texts along with two others concerning the aims of life, with two others being Artha Shastra and the Dharma Shastra. These texts were written in Sanskrit around the seventh century B.C. The Kama is believed to be the third goal of human life with religion, morality (dharma) and material success called (artha). The Kama is defined as the enjoyment of appropriate objects by the fives senses of hearing, feeling, seeing, tasting and smelling. All these senses are followed by the mind, together with the soul, (Kama Sutra, 1883).

Sexual energy involves the primal and creative energy of the universe. Everything around you, which is living has come out from sexual energy. It is something that humans create in all levels- physical, spiritual and emotional.

Sexual energy is always present in any situation- where you feel the arousal, attraction, passion, interest, inspiration, excitement, creativity, enthusiasm, sexual energy is present all the time, and is helping you to work it all. Whenever you come in contact with these feelings or awareness, you should be able to cherish it, embrace it and keep it alive so that it stays there in your awareness. The moment you try to suppress the sexual energy, you take away the innocence and essence of it, making it ugly and unchaste. You should know that sexual desire is sacred and chaste, as when the sexual union happens, there is a union of flesh and spirit.

Therefore, just like in all situations of life, resistance is born of fear, as it is something which is mental. The fear puts us against what is being felt naturally, which is organic and pure. It is only when your hidden emotions such as anger, guilt, and shame get mixed with sex, things become problematic. The fact that most people have their feelings mixed with different emotions, the alteration takes away the true freedom of it. The matter of truth is, sexual intimacy is a path that has the power to become completely uninhibited and free. The act of making love should be enjoyed out of playfulness instead of need, as the moment sex is looked at as needs, it leads to addiction. Whereas, when sex comes from playfulness, it results in euphoria.

You hear about taboos, stigmas, and awkwardness that come along with the word sex and sexual intimacy- all the problems related to sex, neurosis, violence, abuse comes down to resistance, suppression, and repression. If you are allowed to discover your urges and confront your desires and emotions without outside inhibition, things won't go to extremes. Extremism is a reaction to repression, suppression, and inhibition. Aggression and violence are the energies to find ways out because of fear and impotence. It can be your way of experiencing meditation.

Sex is something that needs to be valued and is personal. Every time you feel the sexual energy in a situation, you involve your whole human being along with your entire value system. Your values can be different from your partners, or your friend, and you are in no position to be the moral judge of anyone's values. However, it is important to have core values and respect. It is only when you value your energy, you are able to connect spiritually, and enjoy the pleasure of the union.
